Opportunities, Challenges, and Power of Media and Information
POWER OF MEDIA AND INFORMATION
1. What are the impacts of social media in free speech and expression? Realistically, social media holds a great power in terms of expressing the opinions of one's self. Expressing your own thoughts on a certain problem or issue is one of the human right's. In the past decades, people can't express their own opinion because of the power of the government or the superiority of the church. There are several individuals who were captured before just because of saying something against the government and church. But now, people can freely express themselves in many social media platforms that sometimes they are criticizing so much or even creates an issue about irrelevant things. Posting comments can either result to positive and negative outcome. Every word you post are connected to the millions of individuals across the world so you should know your responsibilities when you try to express yourself in social media.
2. What do you think is the greatest opportunity that media and information gave to the world?
In our world, being aware of issues in our surroundings can make us feel at ease and also communicating to others is one of the most important things right now. Those things are the greatest opportunity that media and information gave to us or we can call it as CONNECTIVITY. Staying connected to the events of your favorite artist are very easy with the use of social media, messaging and communicating your friends through communicating applications and site and listening to the news about the country with the use of media and articles. This type of connectivity is founded because of the media and information or second world or also called as the web.
3. Why some other groups considered the Philippine Cybercrime Law "draconian?"
It is mentioned that this Philippine Cybercrime Law doesn't really provide the right intention of the law. It is meant to protect the victims of the cybercrime but this law actually protects the person who was accused of libel. It limits the freedom of speech of the press and citizens. According to Luis V. Teodoro, this cybercrime law is unnecessary because most of its content is already on our law. There will be no transparency and freedom of expression or speech if this law is approved that's why it was considered as a draconian law.
